Tamil Film Flopping In Tamil, Firing In Telugu!

Lokesh Kanagaraj DC box office

Generally, when a film perform well at the ticket counter, the natural expectation is that it would be generating significant revenue from its home language.

But the exact opposite is the case with DC, which has Tamil director Lokesh Kanagaraj in the lead role. This Tamil film is underperforming in its own state of Tamil Nadu while it is firing very well in Telugu.

The film has done nearly ₹10 crore gross in Telugu already and it is going reasonably well too. However, the situation is the opposite in Tamil Nadu.

Even yesterday, the film collected in Telugu states which round up to around ₹1.8 crore than the conventional Tamil speaking state of Tamil Nadu, where did around ₹1.7 crore gross.

The film is pretty well, even in the Kerala market, which is historically significant for Tamil films, which have a long run here. A similar trend is being observed in Karnataka as well.

The fact that this film is under performing heavily in its own Tamil Nadu state while doing pretty well in the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala is very interesting.

Tamil audience had already turned up in big numbers for recent films like Karuppu and Jana Nayagan. They gave big revenue, even for the recently released Hollywood film, Spiderman. But it is strange to see them, go easy on their own film, DC.
