Dhurandhar Secret Twist: Jio Studios Stole Netflix Hit?

Dhurandhar Netflix original secret revealed

While fans are eagerly waiting for Dhurandhar 2, a surprising revelation about the first film has surfaced. Trade circles claim the project was never meant to be a theatrical release. Instead, it was reportedly designed as a streaming series.

According to insiders, Dhurandhar was originally planned as a nine-episode web series. Each episode was said to be around 45 minutes long. The idea was to position it as a premium thriller for Netflix.

Reports suggest Jio Studios was initially hesitant to fund it as a big-screen project. The hesitation was linked to concerns over Ranveer Singh’s recent box office performance. The financial risk reportedly did not match internal projections.

It is said that Jyoti Deshpande played a crucial role in reshaping the proposal. She allegedly suggested converting it fully into a web series. The plan was to sell it to Netflix and ensure cost recovery.

The streaming giant reportedly showed strong interest. Netflix was said to be looking for another intense Indian thriller after the success of Sacred Games. This made Dhurandhar a strong fit for their content strategy.

This background may explain why Dhurandhar 1 premiered on Netflix instead of Jio Hotstar. The release reportedly followed the project’s original streaming-first vision rather than a theatrical plan.

However, the format reportedly changed at a very late stage. Sources claim the makers shifted to a film release after Ranveer Singh insisted on a theatrical version. This decision altered the project’s trajectory.

Though Ranveer Singh did not invest his own money, reports say he accepted a reduced fee. He is also not said to be part of any profit-sharing agreement. This helped the makers manage costs.

The film’s “Chapter 1, Chapter 2” structure is believed to be a leftover from its web series design. The narrative format supports the theory of its episodic origin.

Meanwhile, work on Dhurandhar 2 is said to be ongoing. Additional scenes and songs are reportedly being added to enhance the cinematic appeal after the strong response to the first part. This revelation has only increased curiosity around the sequel.
