Why Dil Raju’s Gamble on DSP Can Turn Masterstroke?

DSP to star in Yellamma film

For several years, Dil Raju’s Yellamma has been a hot topic in Tollywood, yet the project never made it to the sets. Venu Yeldandi, the comedian-turned-director who created a sensation with Balagam, is now set to make this his second directorial venture. He is extremely passionate about the film and believes it will succeed both commercially and critically.

Initially, the film was planned with Nani in the lead. When that did not work out, the project shifted to Nithiin. However, Nithiin also had to step away, leading to a surprising twist. Devi Sri Prasad will now play the lead role.

Dil Raju has long expressed interest in introducing Devi as an actor under Sukumar’s direction. Now, fate has given Venu Yeldandi the opportunity to direct DSP’s first full-fledged acting role. The film is expected to go on floors soon.

There are some doubts about DSP playing the lead; whether he can pull off the hero role and captivate audiences and hold their attention in theaters. On the other hand, there are also many who believe Devi Sri Prasad could be a perfect fit for Yellamma. Since the film primarily focuses on folk singers from backward castes and their musical traditions, Devi’s background as a celebrated music composer might give him a unique advantage in owning the role.

Another point of interest is the female lead opposite DSP. When Nithiin was initially attached, Keerthy Suresh was close to signing on. However, before anything was finalized for Yellamma, Keerthy was cast as the heroine in Vijay Deverakonda’s next film once again under Dil Raju Productions. Now that DSP is stepping in as the lead, it remains to be seen whether Keerthy will join him, or any other actress will replace her.
