Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, and Soubin Shahir in key roles, released on August 14th. The movie has received mixed responses, sparking debates among fans and critics.
Many viewers felt that Lokesh Kanagaraj failed to utilize Nagarjuna’s potential, giving him limited screen space and weak characterization. This has disappointed audiences since the director had promoted Nagarjuna’s role in interviews as one of the deadliest villains. Despite his stylish look, the character lacked depth.
Following the release, Nagarjuna’s fans have taken to social media to accuse Tamil directors of betraying both Nagarjuna and his son Naga Chaitanya. They argue that Naga Chaitanya’s Custody directed by Venkat Prabhu in 2023 turned out to be a disaster, and now Coolie has underutilized Nagarjuna. Fans suggest the father-son duo should avoid Tamil directors in the future.
Still, these remain online reactions. While Coolie may not have matched expectations, Nagarjuna’s appearance has impressed many, especially Kollywood audiences who are now creating fan edits celebrating his stylish look.
