Jaat Good Bad Ugly

Mythri Movie Makers released two films, Jaat and Good Bad Ugly, last week, and both of them have turned out to be a moderate success at the box office. While expectations were in bigger numbers, the collections have not been up to the mark for one particular reason – the star fees.

Jaat, which has Sunny Deol in the lead, has collected Rs. 50 crores until now, which is lower than Sunny’s last release, Gadar 2, which recorded almost Rs. 40 crores on Day 1.

It seems like the makers of Jaat were blinded by the success of Gadar 2 as they possibly believed that the film made Rs. 500 crores due to Sunny’s presence. But they need to understand that Gadar 2 worked only because of brand value and nostalgia.

On the other hand, Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly has made more than Rs. 170 crores.

However, the numbers do not suit a superstar like Ajith, who has delivered better figures in the past. Ajith has always been paid more than the recovery cost of any film, and a question remains about who agreed to the same.

It looks like Ajith is not paying much attention to his market, and it is the best time for the producers to understand the market value of any star.

Moreover, the producers could have approached Boney Kapoor, the producer of Valimai, before agreeing to pay the fee as per Ajith’s demand, since Boney also reportedly suffered losses with the action film, which was released back in 2022.

Good Bad Ugly would have done better than what it has recorded so far if the producers had made the film on a crisp budget. Notably, budget has been a major issue in every film nowadays since the makers don’t prefer to negotiate before finalizing anything.

Hopefully, the results of Jaat and Good Bad Ugly should turn out to be a learning lesson for the makers, and they are expected to take care of the star fees in the upcoming projects.
