Tollywood is in need of a new no. 1 heroine with the last primary choice Pooja Hegde no longer relevant in the industry. This could perhaps have been the right time for Bollywood beauty Janhvi Kapoor, the daughter of legendary Sridevi to engage in the Tollywood game. The fact that she is doing Devara and RC 16 is in alignment with the same.
However, amidst the recent talk that Janhvi Kapoor has been signed to do an item song in Pushpa 2, will her Tollywood prospects take a beating or in reverse, enhance further?
In Devara, she is evidently playing a traditional and de-glam role. In RC16 also, her role might be a conservative one, given Buchi Babu’s sensibilities with regard to the female lead in Uppena.
At this time, Janhvi doing an item number in Pushpa 2 might undermine her potential. While there is nothing blatantly wrong about doing item songs, it builds an undeniable perception amongst the audience that the actress is fit only for item songs.
At the same time, Pooja Hegde’s career prospered big time only after she did the item song in Rangasthalam. It worked wonderfully well for the beauty. Then, Samantha made a whole lot of noise with the item number in Pushpa 1. This could be a precedent that the trend is changing.
