As per reports, Nikhil Siddharth’s ‘Spy’ and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram’s ‘Devil’ seem to share a lot in common. Both movies are about spies, and they both dig into the mystery of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
In ‘Spy,’ Nikhil Siddharth was a spy on a mission to find a lost file related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. This puts the Indian RAW and Intelligence Team on high alert.

Now, in ‘Devil,’ Nandamuri Kalyan Ram is the lead and the story revolves around the mysterious death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
‘Spy’ turned out to be a crashing bore because it struggled to make the Subhash Chandra Bose connection interesting. The story didn’t give it any importance and followed the typical spy story twists without much surprise. But, Nikhil desparately promoted his film is based on Subhash Chandra Bose which set the wrong expectation.

On the other hand, Devil’s promotional material didn’t reveal anything about the Subhash Chandra Bose angle in the film.
In an exclusive chat with M9, when asked why they didn’t show the Subhash Chandra Bose angle in the trailer, Kalyan Ram avoided a direct answer.

He suggested watching the movie to understand why they kept it a secret. He mentioned they didn’t want to build up unrealistic expectations, and the hidden detail was meant to be a surprise for the audience.
We have to see how the audience will react to the intriguing plot of Bose’s mysterious death in Devil which hasn’t been explored well till now in Tollywood. However, one thing is certain: Kalyan Ram is avoiding setting wrong expectations, unlike Nikhil.
