Anudeep’s Interview Hangover Costs Funky!

Director KV Anudeep known for Jathi Ratnalu has delivered another major flop for Tollywood.

His latest film, Funky opened to negative talk from the very first shows. Both in the Telugu states and in North America, the numbers clearly reflect its fate.

The responsibility largely falls on the director. Those who watched Funky can easily see how the film misfired at the writing and execution level.

In many ways, it feels like Anudeep hurt his own credibility with this project.

Anudeep is not someone who speaks much in public. He comes across as an introvert. However, his offbeat personality and quirky humor in TV shows and interviews created a small but loyal online following. A section of the audience connected with his spontaneous jokes and unique timing.

Unfortunately, that same persona seems to have spilled excessively into Funky.

The influence is crystal clear. The style of humor, the pattern of jokes, and even the rhythm of punchlines feel like extensions of his interview persona.

All the actors in Funky seem to be acting like Anudeep himself. Everyone appears to be imitating his quirky style and body language, which clearly shows how much carelessness went into the making of the film.

Instead of feeling like a cohesive cinematic experience, the film comes across as a collection of random scenes stitched together for individual jokes which remind his interviews.

It is disappointing to see a young director, still early in his career, take creative liberties without fully respecting the audience’s expectations and the producer’s money. Funky stands as a clear lesson on the fine line between quirky individuality and cinematic discipline.
