Last Friday saw two Telugu releases in North America, Vishwak Sen’s Funky and Couple Friendly.
Funky, directed by Jathi Ratnalu director KV Anudeep, came with decent expectations and a genuine fan base for the director. However, the film disappointed big time. It opened to negative talk and poor reviews right from the US premieres. So far, the total stands at just $268K.
Monday was extremely dull with only $12K collected. Tuesday remains the only slight hope due to the $5 ticket deal across the US. But going by the trend, this could be the final push for Funky. The film may end its run around $300K, which is a disastrous number for a combination like Vishwak Sen and the Jathi Ratnalu director.
The other release, Couple Friendly, has also shown no real momentum. Though Monday numbers were slightly better than Funky with $14K, the total so far is only $71K. A small section of the audience connected with the film, but overall it failed to generate strong word of mouth to bring crowds to theatres.
It may close around $120K to $125K.
Overall, both films have struggled badly and posted below-par numbers in North America.
