Pre-pandemic Akshay Kumar was the undisputable superstar who was delivering one hit after another. Between 2017-19 he delivered 8 consecutive hits which was phenomenal.
But the post-pandemic world has been absolutely ruthless to Akshay Kumar. Except for Sooryavanshi which did okay business thanks to the franchise and Diwali season, none of Akshay Kumar’s films worked at the box office. Many of them were outright washouts.
For example, his last film Selfiee, managed to open at a dismal Rs. 2 crores which was shocking. A star hero giving a 2-crore opening in 2023 was not only a rude shock to Akshay and his fans but also to the trade experts.
Akshay Kumar is now coming with another film Mission Ranigunj based on a true event. Based on the buzz and response to the trailer and songs, trade experts are of the opinion that Mission Ranigunj might open even lower than Selfiee, which is very unfortunate and embarrassing.
Akshay Kumar has 8-10 films lined up for release in the next one year. Even his fans are now disappointed that Akshay is doing films without any vision and just for money. He does not realize that today the audience is not ready to watch half-baked films done in a hurry.
If Akshay doesn’t wake up and smell the coffee, getting these 2-crore openings will also become difficult.
