Popular hero Akkineni Nagarjuna attended the diamond jubilee celebrations of ANR College in Gudivada, located in Krishna district. During the event, he inaugurated the Rusa building on the college campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Nagarjuna recalled his father legendary ANR’s contribution to the institution. He said that ANR had donated Rs 1 lakh to the college in 1959, despite not having formal education himself.
Nagarjuna shared that his father always believed in giving students a better future. He said ANR worked tirelessly to support education and uplift young minds through meaningful contributions.
Honouring his father’s legacy, Nagarjuna announced a donation of Rs 2 crore from his family. The amount will be used to provide scholarships for students studying at the college.
Addressing the gathering, Nagarjuna said that people may pass away, but their contributions to society continue to live on. His words drew strong applause from those present.
Nagarjuna also noted that several prominent personalities studied at ANR College. These include Ramoji Rao, Kaikala Satyanarayana, and Justice Devanand.
Former MP Yarlagadda Lakshmiprasad and MLA Venigandla Ramu were also present at the event. The programme witnessed participation from faculty members, students, and local dignitaries.
ANR College was established in 1950 and initially offered only Arts courses. Commerce and science streams were introduced later in 1974 and 1991.
The college was founded to support children of farmers from Krishna district, who earlier had to travel long distances for education. Today, the institution is spread across 25 acres.
