Following the commercial success of Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, actress Nayanthara is returning with two releases, such as Yash’s Toxic and Hi. Both films are scheduled for a theatrical release next week, with Toxic releasing on August 26th and Hi releasing on August 28th.
Even though Yash’s Toxic has a huge star cast with many actresses playing crucial roles, many people believe, following the recently released trailer that Nayanthara has a prominent role in the film.
While Toxic is one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema and is releasing in almost 6 to 7 languages on the same date, on the other hand, Nayanthara’s other film, Hi, in which she plays the female lead alongside emerging actor Kavin, does not have much buzz among Kollywood audiences.
Although Nayanthara herself has produced Hi under her banner Rowdy Pictures and is currently promoting it by participating in events and giving interviews, the film still lacks strong pre-release momentum.
In response to the low buzz surrounding Hi, trade experts suggest that because of the heavy wave of recent Kollywood releases, combined with several big-budget films scheduled for release over the coming months, currently the Kollywood market feels overcrowded. Consequently, audiences are showing less excitement for medium-budget movies.
Additionally, experts claim that because Yash’s pan-Indian film Toxic releases during the same week, public attention remains focused only on it. They note that unless Toxic receives average reviews, Hi may struggle to reach wide audiences and have a huge risk of going unnoticed amid the strong opening for Toxic.
With two releases next week, it remains to be seen which of Nayanthara’s films will emerge as the winner and how both Toxic and Hi perform at the Tamil Nadu box office.
