Actor Imran Khan is facing fresh controversy after taking part in a protest in Mumbai. The actor, who is Aamir Khan’s nephew, joined a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on October 10.
The protest was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party at August Kranti Maidan. Imran was among those detained by the police during the demonstration.
The matter has now extended beyond the protest. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya raised concerns over Imran’s participation. She also pointed out that the actor is a US citizen who holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
Following a complaint, Mumbai Police has issued a notice asking the actor to leave India by October 28. The action reportedly relates to his participation in the protest despite being a foreign national.
The development has raised questions about the rules governing OCI cardholders and their participation in political demonstrations in India.
