Just a few days ago, we reported that Malayalam blockbusters, Bramayugam and Premalu were doing quite well in Hyderabad.
A week later, Mammootty’s Bramayugam was dubbed in Telugu. But the collections have been dismal in the Telugu version.
The total gross collections in Telugu states over the weekend were around 40-50 lakhs which is sad. However, it was pretty much expected as the genre has a limited appeal and has fewer takers in Telugu.
Looking ahead, “Premalu” is set to follow suit with a Telugu dubbing, and plans are underway for its release in Telugu.
Notably, SS Karthikeya, son of Rajamouli, is spearheading the Telugu release, scheduled for March 8, 2024, having acquired the dubbing rights at a fancy price.
After Bramayugam, the scenario for Premalu is critical. Despite being a blockbuster in Malayalam, the Telugu audience hasn’t been able to digest Bramayugam.
The taste of the Telugu audience is very different. They don’t appreciate Malayalam films in theaters but appreciate them on OTT though. The same films receive cold reception from Telugu audiences in theaters as the films lose their original essence and flavor in translation.
It would be interesting to see how the Telugu audience will receive Premalu in the Telugu version.
