Striking gold at the box office and then in the OTT space is a tough prospect. In the case of RRR, this film ticked both these boxes as it was a smashing hit at the box office and then it was a global sensation on OTT. This is a Rajamouli mark blockbuster on both fronts.

As it appears, the only other commercial director apart from Rajamouli who can pull repeat audiences on OTT is Prashanth Neel.
Neel earlier delivered an OTT winner in the form of KGF 1. This film was a rage on OTT. And then, Neel’s latest outing Salaar has also done pretty well. The clips of the action sequences and build up shots in the film are still trending on social media.

Incidentally, even Kalki made its OTT debut recently and it has struggled to get anywhere. The reception for the film on OTT has been strictly mediocre at best. The clippings are also nowhere to be seen in the social space.
With this, it is evident that it is exceptionally hard for a commercial director to strike gold in theaters and at the same time, get it trending on OTT. Only Rajamouli and Neel have done it to a great extent thus far.

One might argue that Lokesh Kanagaraj is also good at it. However, his films have worked mostly at the box office but they haven’t trended on OTT like the Salaars and RRRs. So as it stands, Rajamouli and Neel are the only two masters of the craft.
