Oscars Record: Most Wins For A Film

When the Oscars like a film, they really, really like the film. Everything, Everywhere All At Once was nominated in 11 categories at the Academy Awards this year, and it won seven of them, which is phenomenal. Most people are under the impression that this is the most number of Oscars won by a film in cinema history. But that is not the fact.

Three films in the history of cinema have won the record number of 11 Oscars.

Ben-Hur (1959)
Titanic (1997)
The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King (2003)

Only Titanic received the most nods out of these three, with a total of 14 nominations. There’s no chance of the record being broken or leveled this time around – Everything Everywhere All at Once is up for eleven awards.

Though not an Indian film, Gandhi (1982), based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, also won a whopping eight Oscars. Another film based on India, Slumdog Millionaire (2008), also won eight Oscars.

Parasite, a Korean film that was loved by the Indian audience, won four Oscars in 2020, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Everything, Everywhere All At Once was a box office flop in India when it was released last year. After the film’s phenomenal success at the Oscars, people are jumping on to SonyLiv to watch the film where it is streaming. And surprisingly, many are finding it nonsensical & absurd and not funny or intriguing at all.
