The COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the global box office landscape, with audiences becoming more choosy and hard to impress. Despite this, some films have done exceptionally well, both in India and overseas.

Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan leads the pack for the highest-grossing Indian movies abroad after the pandemic, with a total of 415 crores. His other film, Jawan, is also near the top, earning 405 crores. This shows that Bollywood is still very strong internationally.

Regional films from Tollywood, Kollywood, and Sandalwood have also done well. Tollywood’s RRR ranks third with 352 crores. Prabhas’ film Kalki 2898 AD is in fifth place, having made 245 crores. Another Telugu film, Salaar, is tenth with 130 crores.

From Kollywood, Leo earned 204 crores and is in seventh place. Jailer, another Tamil film, made 195 crores and is just below Leo. Ponniyin Selvan 1 also features on the list with 165 crores.

Sandalwood’s KGF Chapter 2 is in sixth place with 220 crores.

Overall, Bollywood has four films in the top ten, showing its strong international presence.

Prabhas is steadily closing the gap with Shah Rukh Khan, being just 170 crores behind him. If he can find some overseas markets that can give him an additional business of $20 million, then he can surely surpass SRK.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for Prabhas to surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s overseas earnings and claim the top spot.
