Will Pawan Kalyan Maintain Total Dominance Over Mahesh?

Powerstar Pawan Kalyan and Superstar Mahesh Babu are undoubtedly the biggest stars in Telugu right now. Many see them are the two eyes of Telugu cinema. Wouldn’t it be mighty exciting to see the two clash at the box office one last time before Pawan Kalyan takes semi-retirement of sorts?

A potential clash has been set up right now thanks to the postponement and delays of films of the two stars. Pawan Kalyan’s 25th film with Trivikram is confirmed for January 10th release, officially. Similarly, Mahesh Babu’s Bharat Ane Nenu is announced to have a January 11th release. One of them is sure to arrive, and if the other to arrives without backing out, we could be in for a mother of all clashes where the two are equals in every way.

In the past, the two stars have had releases in close proximity few times. Mahesh Babu’s debut movie came exactly two weeks after Tammudu. It was the first clash if close releases are taken into consideration. Other similar clashes in the same vein are Yuvaraju and Badri, Pokiri and Bangaram. Other films like Arjun and Gudumba Shankar, Sainikudu and Annavaram, Puli and Khaleja, have come with four or five weeks gap.

In all these cases mentioned above, Pawan Kalyan had the bigger opening. And except on two occasions, he had the highest grosser. Pokiri is the one everyone knows, the other is Arjun. However, unlike Pokiri, the difference was very less in the second case.

What one needs to understand here and the reason why Pawan Kalyan was always put ahead as a star over Mahesh Babu is that he satisfied the two criteria required for a star. One is the opening and the second is the long run based on talk. Pawan Kalyan always had bigger openings and also when both the stars had equal talks (either both hit or both flop) Pawan Kalyan always grossed bigger. Simply put, it has been a total domination from Pawan Kalyan despite a Pokiri by Mahesh Babu. The fact that the two have always avoided close encounters is an obvious pointer towards that.

With that in mind, it would be an exciting situation if the two come face to face with best combinations. Mahesh Babu has grown tremendously as a star over the years. However, there is a talk about delay of Bharat Ane Nenu. Let us see how things pan out in the end.
