Rajinikanth‘s Jailer 2 is maintaining strong momentum at the box office on its second day, with an impressive hold putting it on course for a massive extended opening weekend. Jailer 2 is expected to collect over Rs. 40 crores in India on Friday, a drop of around 40% from its opening day.
Overseas, the film is reportedly heading for a gross of more than USD 4 million on Friday. The worldwide second-day collection is expected to cross Rs. 75 crores, taking Jailer 2’s total gross past Rs. 200 crores within its first two days.
Tamil Nadu, which had a relatively underwhelming opening day, has shown a stronger hold on Friday, with the drop reportedly below 30%. Meanwhile, the Telugu and Hindi dubbed versions have also held well. Karnataka and Kerala continue to perform strongly after exceptional openings.
Going by the advance bookings, trade expectations are building around the possibility of Rs. 100 crores worldwide on both Saturday and Sunday.
If the momentum continues, Jailer 2 could touch Rs. 400 crores worldwide during its four-day extended opening weekend. The Dussehra and Puja holidays on Monday and Tuesday could provide another major boost, potentially taking its worldwide total close to Rs. 500 crores within six days.
However, the real test will be sustaining collections after the holiday period. For Jailer 2 to reach Rs. 1000 crores worldwide and become the first Tamil film to achieve that milestone, its performance after the festival holidays will be crucial.
