Making sequels and turning super hit films into a franchise has become a common phenomenon in various film industries across the country. But, the number of sequels made in the name of franchises in Kollywood is outnumbering the sequels being made in other film industries.

Right from the third installment of Suriya’s ‘Singam’ franchise to ‘Kanchana 4’ of Lawrence Raghavendra, the sequel mania has gripped Kollywood and spreading like fire. Not to forget superstar Rajnikanth’s sequel of ‘Robot’ (2.0), Kamal Haasan’s ‘Vishwaroopam 2’ and Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Chennai 600028 II’.
The list seems to be endless as fans of the Tamil star heroes are asking for many sequels like Vijay’s ‘Thuppaki 2’ and Shimbu’s ‘Saamy’. Of course ‘Baahubali 2′ is the most awaited one though it is basically a Telugu film. Franchise films are considered safe bet for makers as they have the quality of connecting with the audiences quickly by the virtue of the prequels’ super hit status.
