Director Shankar

Lokesh Kanagaraj, a hardcore admirer of Kamal Haasan, seized the chance to work with his idol on the film Vikram, which premiered in June 2022 and became a blockbuster hit.

In Vikram, Kamal Haasan has minimal screen time in the first half. Instead, the film is carried by the stellar performances of Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi. Kamal Haasan’s character is given a significant reveal only just before the interval.

It appears Shankar might be adopting a similar approach for Indian 2. Reports suggest that Kamal Haasan will primarily appear in the second half of the film, leaving the first half in the hands of Siddharth and other actors. This choice has raised concerns among fans.

The strategy succeeded in Vikram due to the extraordinary talents of Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi, who managed to keep the audience engaged.

However, the cast of Indian 2 may not have the same pull to sustain the first half without Kamal Haasan’s presence. This could backfire big time, potentially leading to audience dissatisfaction.

Indian 2 is already facing issues with its promotional material, which hasn’t generated the expected buzz. The songs have not made a significant impact, and there’s a noticeable lack of excitement surrounding the sequel.

Nearly 28 years have passed since the original Indian was released, and the nostalgic audience that remembers the film has largely aged out of the typical movie-going demographic.

It remains to be seen whether the strategy of introducing Kamal Haasan in the second half of Indian 2 will pay off. The film’s success may depend on how well Shankar has managed to engross the audience with his screenplay until Kamal Haasan’s entry in the second half.
