Bollywood Stars Badly Need South Masala?

South Indian Directors and Bollywood Cinema

South Indian cinema has historically been aligned with commercial format of filmmaking, and this is precisely the kind of content that has been working in the Indian cinema space in the recent past.

The tremendous success of Telugu Cinema, which is known for cultural significance with regard to commercial presentation is remarkable example of the same.

Now we have the case South Indian directors, who are putting their hands on top of the bar when it comes to making quality commercial cinema.

The likes of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Sukumar, Nelson, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nelson, Nag Ashwin, Atlee, and the biggest of the lot, Rajamouli have shown that their grip on commercial cinema is far superior to any Bollywood director these days.

The kind of hero portrayal and the commercial packaging, including extracting quality music, and superior shot composition have kept South directors in a far superior position than the Bollywood counterparts.

Recently, the case of Jailer 2 has exhibited that celebrating big stars on the big screen is a craft that South India has mastered. Perhaps it can be argued that certain Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan also deserve such celebration of the big screen.

It should be a matter of time before the big stars of Hindi cinema also lineup to work with big South Indian directors to truly bring back their commercial appeal. This was already observed in the case of films like Jawaan but far more consistency can be in order.
