Suriya and Venky Atluri’s Vishwanath and Sons is out, and the critical reviews are in. However, its box-office trajectory will become clear only after Monday.
The North American premiere numbers have delivered a surprise. The Telugu version has completely dominated the Tamil version. The film collected $308K from its premieres, with the Telugu version contributing $213K and the Tamil version bringing in just $95K. That is a significant gap.
The trend appears similar on Friday, with the Tamil version continuing to lag behind the Telugu version. A clearer picture will emerge by the end of Friday night in the US, but it is already evident that the Telugu version will have to do most of the heavy lifting for the film’s overall North America premiere total.
Interestingly, Suriya’s previous film, Karuppu performed well in North America despite receiving mixed reviews and closed at $1.4 Million.
