Netflix Must Make It Happen With Tollywood!

Telugu cinema has mastered the art of balancing commercial elements, and that’s one of the reasons it continues to dominate the Indian film industry.

However, when it comes to the OTT space, there’s still a gap to fill. The lack lies in providing extended content specifically tailored for streaming platforms.

Many Telugu films have recently faced complaints over editing mismatches and excessive trimming. While this is understandable due to fixed theatrical run times, OTT platforms offer the perfect opportunity to present longer, extended versions.

Audiences watching at home often look for fresh content, even if they’ve already seen the film in theatres. An extended version with extra scenes would offer something new for both first-time and repeat viewers.

Platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video can easily take the lead by collaborating with top Telugu production houses. They can request extended cuts or director’s versions, enhancing the streaming experience.

Films such as Animal and Kingdom could benefit from such treatment. Scenes deleted for theatre time constraints can be added back for OTT.

If platforms invest modestly in finishing touches like additional CGI or sound the production cost won’t be excessive. But the audience engagement and value generated would be significant.

This approach could also attract a wider audience to OTT platforms, offering exclusive versions not available in cinemas. It has the potential to be a game changer in how Telugu cinema adapts to the digital world.
