We are just about fifteen days away from saying goodbye to 2025. The year is ending with a mix of highs, but mostly disappointments and lessons for the Telugu film industry. As the curtain comes down, movie lovers are curious about what Tollywood has to offer in its final phase. Interestingly, only two Fridays in December, December 19 and December 26, are available for releases, yet nearly ten films are hitting theatres on these two dates.
Among the Telugu releases on December 19, smaller films like Megha Akash’s Sahakutumbanam and Gurram Paapi Reddy are gearing up for release. Both are comedy driven films featuring a mix of senior and popular comic actors. Sahakutumbanam stands out with a cast that includes Rajendra Prasad, Brahmanandam, Satya, and Racha Ravi. The film is banking heavily on humor to attract family audiences.
However, the biggest highlight is undoubtedly Avatar 3: The Fire and Ash. This Hollywood spectacle is releasing worldwide and will get a massive release across India, including the Telugu states. With no major Telugu star films arriving during this period, trade experts expect audiences to flock to theatres for Avatar 3. Telugu audiences have always embraced visually rich, large-scale cinema, and industry circles predict record breaking collections from the region.
On December 26, the final Friday of the year, as many as seven films are set to release. These include Champion, starring Srikanth’s son, and Shambala, featuring Aadi Sai Kumar, which he sees as his comeback. Films like Patang, Eesha, and Dandora are also releasing, with Dandora gaining attention for its grounded village-based theme. Dubbed films like Mohanlal’s Vrusshabha and Sudeep’s Mark will add to the competition.
With so many releases packed into just two Fridays, the big question remains. Which film will emerge as the final winner of 2025 at the box office? Only audience response will decide how the year truly ends.
Akhanda 2 turned out to be a massive disappointment. The first three days were decent, but on Monday the picture was clear. The film has been rejected by the Telugu audience. Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar is turning out to be a one-horse race, with records being broken each and every day. The film is on course to cross 600 crores net at the box office and is the biggest success of the year. It seems Dhurandhar will remain the top choice among audiences till Sankranthi releases take over.
