Bollywood Megastar Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release Dunki released this week received a lukewarm reception among the critics. The opening of the film was also low compared to his last two films Pathaan and Jawan. The collections are trailing far behind Salaar.
Irrespective of what the final verdict of Dunki will be, 2023 belonged to Shah Rukh Khan. With Pathaan (1050 crores), Jawan (1150 crores), and Dunki, SRK becomes the first and only Indian actor to gross more than 2500 crores worldwide in a single year. It can be said that this record will be unbeatable for many years in Indian cinema, though you never know.
Undoubtedly, it was Shah Rukh Khan who revived Bollywood in 2023 which was reeling under some kind of curse in the post-pandemic era.
When stars like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan struggled to give even a 100-crore film, SRK delivered two 500-crore net films within a span of 9 months. After Pathaan and Jawan, Bollywood was back on track with blockbusters like Gadar 2 and Animal.
Shah Rukh Khan’s next film might be released only in 2025 and till then Bollywood has to survive on its own and keep the momentum given by Shah Rukh Khan.
