The Tollywood box office in the USA saw two new theatrical outings today and they are Spy and Samajavaragamana. These are two contrasting films with Spy being an action thriller and the other being a comedy caper.
Coming to the box office numbers of these films, Spy has gotten off to a pretty good start. In fact, this is the best ever opener for Nikhil as it has collected a shade over $161K. This is a very good number for a Nikhil film.
U.S. distributor Prathyangira Cinemas alloted a good number of big screens as well. There was a last minute tussle as the content was delivered very late and as a result, some of the early shows had to be canceled.
As for Samajavaragamana, it got a slow start with $27K from the premieres and it is expected to pick up.
However, Spy has opened to weak reviews and a disappointing word of mouth. As for the Sri Vishnu starrer, there is positivity on the film as people are lapping up its comedy quotient. We have to wait and see how well these film benefit from the 4-day long weekend advantage.
With a 4-day long weekend in the USA, it has to be seen how these two new releases will fare over the weekend. The weekend number will decide their fate at the USA box office.
