War 2 and Coolie were expected to dominate the box office, but their first weekend collections have fallen short. Together, the films managed a combined ₹640 crore opening, which is below industry expectations.
The Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer War 2 earned around ₹180 crore in its opening weekend. Despite negative reviews, the film pulled in audiences mainly due to star power and high-octane action.
Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, created massive hype before release. However, reviews were mostly average, with critics pointing out weak execution. Still, the film opened strong, collecting more than ₹385 crore in its first weekend.
The combined collection of War 2 and Coolie stands at ₹640 crore. This is now being compared to the first weekend earnings of Salaar and Dunki, which together grossed ₹600 crore. Both films eventually crossed ₹1050 crore lifetime.
Based on the mixed reviews, trade experts believe War 2 and Coolie may not reach the 1000 crore milestone. Instead, they are expected to finish between ₹800 and ₹900 crore combined.
Many fans had hoped Coolie alone would cross ₹1000 crore, but even with War 2’s support, the target looks tough to achieve.
