The Independence Day long weekend is done and dusted and it has been a stagnant one to say the least for the Telugu audience. While two mainstream films namely Mr Bachchan and Double Ismart stuttered, there is one surprise winner in the form of Aay.

Double Ismart had a lot of potential for being a sequel and having that mass appeal to pull the masses. But Puri’s poor work played antagonist again as the film had a rather subdued run at the ticket counters. It came crashing down over the course of the weekend and messed up a golden opportunity.
Mr Bachchan was a non-starter at the box office and it reportedly continued to stutter over the weekend.

The surprise hit is Aay which had a fairly good weekend at the box office. It could continuously trend above Bachchan and Ismart in terms of Book My Show bookings over the weekend.
Though the numbers of Aay might not be too much ahead of the other two releases, considering the cast and its business aspects, these numbers are good enough, it seems. The film led the box office on the first Sunday which is no mean feat. It could be termed the winner of the Independence weekend.
