Telugu film audiences have long been known for their strong support for quality cinema. It is not an exaggeration to say that Telugu viewers form one of the most passionate cinema-going communities in India.
The revenues generated in the Telugu states are massive and unmatched in many markets. This strength is widely acknowledged by film industries across the country.
Despite this, Hyderabad, the cultural hub of Telugu cinema, continues to be overlooked by filmmakers and theatre managements. Premium viewing infrastructure has not kept pace with audience demand.
At present, there is not a single IMAX projection facility in Hyderabad that truly offers a large-screen cinematic experience. The only notable big screen remains at Prasads, and even that stands alone.
This is disappointing, considering Telugu audiences rank among the largest in population and theatrical returns. Yet, they are still denied the luxury of watching films in proper IMAX projection.
Several big-scale Telugu films deserve to be experienced in IMAX format. Bringing such premium technology should ideally be a responsibility shared by Tollywood’s leading figures.
Stars like Allu Arjun, Mahesh Babu, Vijay Devarakonda, Ravi Teja, and Venkatesh have invested in improving projection facilities in their respective theatres across Telugu regions.
However, the key issue is that none of these leading heroes or producers appear focused on introducing IMAX-level experiences in Hyderabad. Individual efforts exist, but a unified push is missing.
Bringing IMAX or other premium large-format screens to Hyderabad should not be an impossible task for Tollywood’s bigwigs. Unfortunately, the lack of coordinated effort has left cinema lovers waiting.
