Why Sunil for Bhaktha Kannappa?

Tanikella Bharani knows to take risks as he is most of the time confident that it pays off. He did such a risk with Mithunam and it paid off, earning him accolades as a wonderful director as well. After the critical success of Mithunam, Bharani is now busy starting work on his next directorial venture titled Bhaktha Kannappa, which features Sunil in the lead.

Justifying the selection of Sunil as the lead of his next film, Bharani said that he is no longer a comedian and that there’s an actor hidden deep inside who yearns to be unleashed. Bharani said that Sunil has the potential to play any role and it’s a shame he is being restricted to only comical roles even as a hero. The reason i have chosen him because i strongly believe he can pull off the role of Kannappa with ease.

Bharani said that he is taking inspiration from several books and earlier films on Bhaktha Kannappa by veterans such as Bapu. He further added that the film will be a period flick set against the backdrop of 14th century.
