Telangana government has announced a whopping 1030 Crore allocations for the welfare of minorities of the state in the recently tabled budget. This fund is never before allocation made to Minorities and is almost double than what the United State had spent on them in an year. However Experts say this is just a gimmick to please the Minorities ahead the GHMC elections and the government will not spend more than 300 Crore. The budget just tabled is an interim budget till March.
Most of these funds will be utilized for providing infrastructural facilities to the understaffed minority welfare departments and scholarships. But most of the departments like Wakf Board, State Minorities Finance Corporation, Urdu Academy, Minorities Commissionerate and CEDM are with out required number of work force can not utilize these funds.
At the same time, 500 Crore can not be spent on the scholarships as planned by the government. The government will have to relax the income, age and other eligibility criteria to increase the number of beneficiaries. Other schemes like Shadi Mubarak also come with strings attached and will strap the hands of government in utilizing the funds allocated.
