Local Polls: YCP Shut Down, HC Passes Orders!

High Court Verdict AP Local Body Elections and BC Quota

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has passed a crucial set of directives for the upcoming local body elections in the state, and it is pretty consolidated in nature.

The High Court pointed out that the local body elections procedure must be initiated in 6 weeks time and asked the Election commission and the state government to coordinate with the same.

The YCP was delivered brutal shock as the party had earlier filed a petition to hold the local body elections only after the completion of the SIR procedure. This was not entertained by the High Court and it was mentioned that the election can be held as per schedule.

The earlier order that was issued by the YCP government regarding the 34% reservation for the BC community was also categorically struck down by the court. It was made very clear that the overall reservation must not go on 50% in the procedure.

At this rate, we can expect the electoral battle in Andhra Pradesh to begin within the next one and half month. This will mark the return of election favour in Andhra Pradesh, but the result is going to be pretty much in favour of the NDA government.

The YCP has not yet recovered from the earlier assembly election itself, so expecting any miracle in the local body polls is not ideal at this point.

But that doesn’t take away the fact that Jagan had made it very clear to the YCP administration that his party must contest all the seats without fail.
