Andhra Pradesh Local Elections TDP Jana Sena BJP
After the 2024 Assembly election victory, TDP, Jana Sena and BJP are preparing for their next political test in Andhra Pradesh. With the local body election schedule release expected on October 14, the alliance leadership is focusing on seat sharing, candidate selection, and grassroots coordination.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and BJP state president Madhav are expected to discuss the final seat-sharing formula. The biggest challenge is satisfying all three parties without letting local rivalries weaken the alliance.
The state-level coordination committee led by TDP leader Palla Srinivasa Rao has reportedly collected proposals from the alliance partners. The leaders must now decide which party will contest in each municipality and which partners will get mayoral and municipal chairperson posts. While the TDP has a strong organisational base, Jana Sena and the BJP will also expect their contribution to the alliance victory to be recognised.
Pawan Kalyan has already sent a message to Jana Sena workers. During the Adavi Thalli Bata programme in Polavaram district, he urged them to maintain the unity they demonstrated during the Assembly elections. His emphasis on the alliance suggests that Jana Sena should prioritise collective victory over individual party ambitions.
Municipal reservations will also influence the final decisions. The proposed allocations across 17 municipal corporations and 106 municipalities could change candidate selection and create fresh challenges for seat sharing. Among the 106 municipalities, 36 chairperson posts are proposed for BC candidates, 14 for SC candidates and three for ST candidates. Women are also expected to occupy half of the municipal chairperson positions. The parties will have to wait for the final reservation lists before confirming their candidates.
Beyond seat sharing, development is likely to be a key campaign issue. Voters expect better roads, drainage, drinking water and cleaner towns. The alliance will need to show that its promises translate into visible improvements.
The opposition could benefit if disagreements lead to rebel candidates or divided campaigns. Chandrababu must balance competing demands while Pawan keeps Jana Sena workers on board. They must show that they can work together at the grassroots. The alliance’s ability to settle seat-sharing disputes and present a united front could determine its performance in the local body elections.
