100% Strike Rate In Local Polls: CBN and PK On Mission!

Naidu Pawan Discuss AP Local Elections

The NDA government currently in power in Andhra Pradesh registered a sweeping victory in the 2024 Assembly elections. The alliance won 164 of the state’s 175 seats, giving it an overwhelming majority in the Assembly.

Attention is now shifting towards the upcoming local body elections in the state. The polls will present a different electoral test for the ruling alliance, with local equations, organisational strength and candidate selection expected to play important roles.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, representing TDP and Janasena respectively, have begun discussions on the alliance’s strategy. Seat-sharing and coordination between the partners are among the key issues being considered.

Reports suggest that the NDA leadership is targeting victory across the local bodies. However, the seat-sharing formula is yet to be finalised, with the alliance partners expected to consider their organisational strength in different regions before taking a decision.

There is also speculation that Janasena could seek mayor positions in areas where it has significant political strength. Reports about the party seeking a substantial share of ward positions are also doing the rounds, but no final arrangement has been officially announced.

TDP is expected to seek a significant share of seats based on its organisational presence across Andhra Pradesh. However, the final allocation between TDP, Janasena and BJP will depend on negotiations and assessments of their respective strengths at the local level.

BJP is also expected to seek opportunities to expand its presence beyond areas where it currently has Assembly representation. The party’s role in the final seat-sharing arrangement will become clearer once discussions among the three alliance partners are completed.

For now, the focus remains on negotiations within the NDA. With Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan discussing the strategy, the final seat-sharing formula will be closely watched ahead of the Andhra Pradesh local body elections.
