YSRCP’s former excise minister Narayanaswamy has received fresh notices from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam. Last month, SIT had issued summons, but he failed to appear citing health reasons.
On Friday, SIT officials visited his residence in Putturu and handed over the notices directly. Narayanaswamy served as excise minister during the period when the alleged scam took place.
The probe focuses on allegations that, after YSRCP came to power in 2019, new liquor brands were introduced, and crores of rupees were siphoned off through kickbacks. The SIT is also investigating why transactions were shifted to manual mode instead of digital records.
Officials suspect the involvement of key figures associated with Tadepalli palace in policy changes and decision-making. The investigation is aimed at uncovering the mastermind behind the scam.
While several prime accused are currently in jail and a few remain absconding, SIT continues to explore every angle to identify those who orchestrated the scheme.
