In a major regulatory milestone for the upcoming greenfield facility, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has officially designated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram as an authorized immigration check post.
The decision, issued under the powers of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, formally places Bhogapuram Airport as serial number 39 under Category I (Airports) in the national registry of authorized check posts.
With this crucial statutory requirement cleared, immigration authorities are now empowered to process passport verifications, visa clearances, and international passenger arrivals and departures once international commercial operations commence.
Following Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, Bhogapuram becomes the third airport in Andhra Pradesh to offer these designated foreign transit check post facilities. Developed by the GMR Group as a prominent aviation hub for north coastal Andhra Pradesh, the airport’s infrastructure , featuring a 78,000-square-metre terminal building modeled after the shape of a flying fish, is built to handle an annual passenger capacity of nearly 4 crore (40 million).
This critical immigration update comes just days after the Ministry of Civil Aviation formally presented the airport its commercial aerodrome license on July 10, 2026.
