Thalapathy Vijay Offered Deputy CM, Best Option?

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedules for polling in Tamil Nadu along with West Bengal, Keralam, Assam and the union territory of Puducherry.

Tamil Nadu will go to polls on April 23. So the latest development is that the BJP which is looking for an alliance with Thalapathy Vijay’s TVK has offered him the Deputy CM post.

The BJP offered 80 seats to TVK, if he chooses to join the alliance. So far, this is BJP’s offer. No talks took place between Vijay and the BJP. For now, it is a speculation though the news has come from BJP circles.

Vijay is said to be keen on the CM’s post. But the question is should Vijay grab the offer. The Tamil political watchers feel it would be best for Vijay to take up the offer as he seems to lack the magnetism of leaders like MGR or Jayalalitha, both of whom were film stars before entering politics.

Tamil Nadu has been traditionally a stronghold of regional parties. They like their Dravidian roots and look at the Center as meddlesome. Meanwhile, the BJP is trying to make its debut in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP’s win is unsure and so is of Vijay’s TVK. It is unknown if the BJP will make its mark in Tamil Nadu. The ruling DMK tried to woo Vijay, but he made it clear he would fight it out alone.

On the other hand, Pawan Kalyan has denied rumours of he suggesting Vijay to join the NDA alliance. The Deputy CM of Andhra says he met Vijay 25 years back.

BJP too is testing waters in Tamil Nadu. Vijay has nothing to lose except for his ego if he enters the alliance. If NDA wins, he will be the Deputy CM, which is a plum post for a political novice. If the BJP fails to make a mark, then Vijay will have a considerable say as an opposition leader.

Of course, the final decision is Vijay’s. But he has to review the ground reality before taking a final decision, say Tamil political analysts.
