Can Revanth Go After MIM?

The Telangana government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is taking action against illegal encroachments through the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA).

HYDRAA has been acting against buildings in and around water bodies in the Greater Hyderabad area, including properties owned by influential people.

One such property is the Fatima Owaisi College, owned by AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, which reportedly falls under the Full Tank Level (FTL) of a lake in Bandlaguda. HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath stated that the college will not be touched until the end of the current academic year, after which action will be taken if it is proved that the college falls under FTL.

Meanwhile, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi recently made strong comments against HYDRAA in a meeting in Nizamabad.

He pointed out that some government buildings are also in the FTL and questioned whether they will be demolished too. He also mentioned that even the secretariat might be in the FTL and asked if it would be demolished.

At the same time, the government is taking steps to remove houses near the Musi River as part of its beautification project, which some MIM MLAs have opposed.

Meanwhile, there was a recent clash between MIM MLA Majid Hussain and Congress leader Feroze Khan. Their supporters got involved in a physical fight, which created a tense atmosphere. This incident showed that the relationship between Congress and MIM is not as good as it used to be.

It is reported that Asaduddin Owaisi met with Revanth Reddy during Reddy’s recent visit to Delhi. They discussed the HYDRAA demolitions, with Asaduddin asking not to take action without a full survey.

With tensions between the two parties, it remains to be seen how Revanth Reddy will handle the situation in the Old City and with the MIM. If HYDRAA goes ahead with demolitions, Congress might face backlash from MIM, but if they don’t, people may think HYDRAA is biased towards Congress supporters. So, it will be interesting to see how Revanth manages this issue.
