The Death of Air-Conditioned Governance

Chandrababu Naidu at collectors conference

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has officially shattered the comfort of the Secretariat by declaring every Friday as “Field Grievance Day”. Addressing the 7th District Collectors’ Conference in Amaravati, he mandated that officials must leave their offices to resolve citizens’ complaints directly at the grassroots level.

Drawing inspiration from Singapore’s model, Naidu emphasized that problems must be solved locally at the mandal level. This “goodwill mission” effectively ends the era of virtual governance. All official video conferences and internal meetings are now restricted to a single day each week to maximize time spent in the field.

Collectors are now required to visit at least one constituency four times every month. To ensure these visits aren’t just for show, Naidu has set a massive target of constructing 10 lakh houses by December 2027. By combining field presence with high-speed digital tracking, he is betting that “Andhra Speed” will finally replace bureaucratic inertia.
