Is Congress committed on Special Status Bill?

Congress Special statusThe Private Member Bill on the Special Status issue of Andhra Pradesh is coming to voting on Friday. Congress Party had issued a whip to all its MPs in the house to attend on that day and vote in favour of the bill. This is the first time Congress issuing a whip on a Private member bill. Reports are emerging that TDP MPs will also vote in favour of the bill.

It is not sure what the Rajya Sabha MPs from TDP (TS) would be doing. However this count will not be sufficient to move the bill. If at all it has to be passed, Congress should make its UPA partners to vote in favour of the bill and that would prove its commitment to the issue. If at all the bill is passed, it will be a huge setback to the ruling BJP which denied Special Status to the state.

In such a case, Congress may get a little respite in Andhra Pradesh where it is reduced to Zero in the 2014 elections after the state bifurcation. BJP will try its level best to stop the bill passed. There are also rumours that the session may end tomorrow to make sure the bill do not come up for voting.
