After all claims of being ready to resign from their MLA posts, the high drama revolving around Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender and Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari has ended on a bland note.
Of the 10 defecting MLAs, Telangana Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar dismissed the disqualification of 8 MLAs pretty soon. But like prized MLAs, the situation of Danam and Kadiyam was put on hold till the very end.
The Supreme Court will be hearing the case one last time on Thursday and hence Gaddam gave his decision a day before ending the suspense once and for all.
Danam and Kadiyam participated in Congress meetings and canvassed for the Congress openly. After BRS lost in 2023, Danam contested for Lok Sabha from Secunderabad and lost. Kadiyam’s daughter Kadiyam Kavya is the Warangal Congress MP and she was supported by Kadiyam during her canvassing.
Despite all this and boasting about being ready for by elections, the case has ended in a whimper. Both leaders said by elections were inevitable and reams were written about the Congress and mainly the BRS being prepared for the by elections.
But politics in 2026 are “politics of convenience”. The parties do what suits them the best. During the Jubilee Hills elections, the ruling Congress had to move heaven and earth to make Naveen Yadav the MLA.
The situation now is not particularly in favor of BRS or the Congress. Telangana people fear the BRS for its massive corruption allegations. On the other hand, Revanth Reddy came to power due to anti-incumbency votes and is disliked by many for displacing several people for his grand schemes.
Neither party is ready for a by poll, let alone in two constituencies. As for the MLAs, going for by elections would mean disrespecting people’s verdict. This can adversely impact their future political career.
For the people tired of Danam, Kadiyam daily serial, it is a happy ending as they no longer will be tortured with stories regarding the tiniest development in the matter.
