It’s good news for those who parted with their land for the Mamnoor airport in Warangal district. The Telangana government has released Rs 205 crore for compensating those who gave lands as part of Airport Land Acquisition.
Now that the land acquisition issue has been resolved, the government and Airports Authority of India (AAI) can go ahead with the construction of the much awaited airport.
It has to be noted that AAI holds 694.14 acres and the government had to go for land acquisition for another 280 acres required for runways, terminals, etc. The government acquired 220.27 acres of private land, denotified a tank and will use available government land.
As for compensation, the farmers and land givers asked for Rs 4 crore per acre. However, the estimate was brought down to Rs 1.2 crore per acre.
A dream of Warangal citizens, Mamnoor airport was facing delays as the small and marginal farmers continued cultivation as they didn’t receive compensation. Now that the problem has been sorted, Mamnoor could become a reality in 30 months.
