More districts in Telangana - Not a smart move?Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced creation of new districts in the state which will take the total count to 24/25. The government claims that such move is intended to bring administration closer to people. However experts doubt that the move may only complicate administration further.

The state government is already suffering from the shortage of IAS and IPS officers after the state division. New districts will mean that each district will have an additional requirement of 30 IAS and 30 IPS officers. Two IAS officers for each district are to be appointed as collector and joint-collector.

And two IPS officers are to be appointed as superintendent and assistant superintendent of police. After bifurcation, Telangana was allotted 163 IAS posts, 112 IPS posts and 65 IFS posts. With present number of districts, the state would need 193 IAS officers and 141 IPS officers. etting up of 15 new districts would mean an additional requirement of 30 IAS and 30 IPS officers.
