Telangana government is facing the first allegation of a big scam after forming the first ever government in the new state. The ambitious Haritha Haaram project announced by the Chief Minister has become the center of controversy. The mission aims to improve greenery in the state by planting over 230 crore saplings in three years. Committees have been formed in each district to take care of this with the joint collector as chairman and officials from Forest and Horticulture departments as members.
As a part of this project, each district has called for tenders to procure crores of polythene covers to supply the saplings. It is said that contractors with the blessings of TRS leaders in each district have together formed syndicates and quoted for higher prices. Each Kg of polythene covers have gone more than 200 Rupees per kg in almost all the districts but government has given a deaf ear to them for known reasons. After the outbreak of the news in media, Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna has promised to re-examine the tendering process and will call for fresh tenders if required.
