GHMC polls benefit Telangana in other way!

The government’s concentration on the upcoming GHMC polls have benefited the state in other way. The government had decided to hold the proposed hike in Power Tariff until the elections are complete. However this will be a huge blow to the discoms of the state who are already in financial crunch following the power crisis.

The state ridden by shortage in power supply is likely to face severe power cuts in the Summer. And the government do not want to face the wrath of the people by increasing the tariff rates. If the polls are announced, the price hike will any way halted by the code of conduct.

Given the government is shelling out huge money for purchasing power, the subsidy costs borne by the government are mounting every month. The government has to pass on some of this burden on to the customers with tariff hike lest the state treasury will be taking severe toll. On the other side, power cuts have began in the city early last week as the power demand is slowly increasing.
