Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation (GHMC) had allocated Rs 100 crore last year and 40 Crore this year for heritage restoration and conservation in the city. However the state archaeology department remarked that GHMC’s renovation works are doing more damage than good for the heritage structures peppered across the city.

They say the corporation is just doing cosmetic repairs for the heritage structures with out taking the advice of subject experts. The department officials say restoring a heritage structure should be done according to the old techniques, which were practiced at that point of time.
But GHMC with out proper guidance is using the present day ready made mixed for the restoration works which will only damage the valuable structures in the long term. However GHMC officials say they are taking all possible care. They also add that they have appointed a consultant to draw up a detailed project report for the maintenance works of all the heritage structures in the city.
