Gorantla Madhav, once known as Gabbar Singh during his police service, entered politics through YSR Congress and won as Hindupur MP in 2019. His journey since then has been nothing short of controversial.
Shortly after becoming MP, Madhav made headlines by storming at a Kia Motors official. Later, a sleaze video leak nearly ended his political career.
He was denied a ticket in the 2024 elections but remained loyal to the YSRCP. Madhav is now eyeing an MLA ticket from Raptadu for the next election.
Party insiders say Madhav wants Topudurthi Prakash Reddy moved to Anantapur, with former MP Venkatrami Reddy contesting as the MP there. After the 2024 elections, Prakash Reddy kept a low profile in the constituency.
Sensing an opportunity, Madhav, who belongs to the numerically strong Kuruba community, began actively touring Raptadu. He attended every public and private event, hoping to build his base.
However, Prakash Reddy eventually returned and blocked Madhav’s outreach by reactivating his old political connections.
In April, Madhav was arrested after attempting to assault a YouTuber who made objectionable remarks about Bharathi Reddy, wife of Jagan Mohan Reddy. He spent 20 days in jail before getting bail.
These actions were reportedly aimed at impressing Jagan and securing the Raptadu ticket. However, that strategy did not succeed.
Sources confirm that the YSRCP high command has since asked Madhav to stay away from Raptadu. He has not visited the constituency for over three months.
With political doors closing, Madhav’s career now appears to be at a crossroads. He occasionally holds press meets criticising the ruling party to remain visible in media and public memory.
Whether Jagan Mohan Reddy gives him another political chance remains to be seen.
