YSRCP leader Ketireddy Venkatarami Reddy stirred controversy by sarcastically claiming that in two years time, people could catch pulasa fish in Amaravati waters. Pulasa is a seasonal delicacy of the Godavari districts that swims upstream during monsoon.
The former Dharmavaram MLA targeted the Chandrababu Naidu government by suggesting that heavy rains would flood Amaravati and residents could then go fishing for pulasa. His remarks were made after meeting Mithun Reddy at Rajahmundry Central Jail, where Mithun is lodged for his alleged role in the AP liquor scam.
Ketireddy alleged that the CBN government was harassing those who opposed it. He claimed that anyone supporting the ruling party was labelled a patriot while those who questioned it were branded as traitors. He criticised police for stopping Kethireddy Pedda Reddy from entering Tadipatri despite High Court orders.
He went on to say that while Chandrababu Naidu may be safe, police officers would face consequences in the future for such actions. However, his pulasa comment has angered Andhra Pradesh citizens who accuse YSRCP leaders of damaging their own party’s image ahead of elections.
The party already secured only 11 seats in the recent elections, which was not enough for opposition status. Public opinion is growing against Jagan, Ketireddy, and YSRCP as people feel the leadership is undermining the development of Amaravati.
For many citizens, Amaravati is an emotion and is regarded as the people’s capital that reflects the aspirations of Telugus. Critics point out that during Jagan’s five-year rule little was done for Amaravati’s growth, leaving voters frustrated.
With public sentiment running high, political observers believe YSRCP may even lose deposits in the next assembly elections if such remarks continue.
