Govt Revives AP Fibernet: 12,946 Villages Connected

Govt Revives AP Fibernet

AP government is working at a fast pace to revive AP Fibernet. Like many projects, AP Fibernet was almost killed by the past government. By the time alliance government came to power, AP Fibernet was in deep financial crisis and there was in-fighting within the organisation.

The present government sorted out internal matters and is putting the service back on track. Rs 200 crore will be spent this year to improve services. So, 78,355 km of fibernet has been laid connecting 12,964 gram panchayats.

New set-top boxes, AI Tools and CCTV upgrades are also on the way. The primary objective of AP Fibernet was to provide internet, cable TV and landlines services to all corners of the state.

AP government has come up with an ambitious plan to modernize infrastructure, privatize operations and expand service coverage. The objective is to build trust among public with accountability and responsiveness.

Analysts say if the reforms work, AP Fibernet has the potential to become a role model in the country for affordable digital connectivity.
